Third win for MMA fighter
He won his fight by a judges' decision after three rounds.
Team MMA fighter, Sizwe Mnikathi is on top of the world after he beat Anthony Mailer at the Grand West Casino in Cape Town on Thursday, 6 November at EFC 35.
He won his fight by a judges’ decision after three rounds, to give him his third consecutive EFC victory.
In August he defeated Tshilomo Mulumba at Carnival City in Johannesburg in the third round after a judges’ decision and followed that up with victory over Bill Thusi after a first round submission at EFC 33 at the ICC in Durban.
“It felt really good to win my third consecutive fight, but there is still a lot of hard work ahead,” said Sizwe, who started boxing as a young boy and then transitioned to mixed martial arts (MMA).
I’ve been a member of Team MMA for just less than a year. Since I have joined, I have been training a lot more than what I used to.
This year I have won all my fights under coach Morne Swanepoel’s guidance. He is always pushing and motivating me to do my best. He is very professional and strict and trains his fighters hard.
I’m only 22 years old now, so I’ve still got a lot of time ahead of me to compete.”
Sizwe said fighting in the biggest tournament on the continent is what he enjoys about MMA. “I love the excitement of being a professional athlete. With the dynamics of MMA, you never get bored, as it is always evolving as a sport and an art.
I’m hoping to fight on Thursday, 11 December at the Coca Cola Dome at EFC 36.
With three wins, there is now more pressure on me as I start to climb the ladder to the top. I want to continue winning, so that I can compete for the title next year.”
