Rotary nourishes needy with eight tons of food
The donation has been made possible through the East Coast Radio Toy story project.
SOME four tons of food has been donated to local schools and community-based organisations via Amanzimtoti Rotary Club in conjunction with the East Coast Radio Toy Story project.
But this is not all – also through the club, four more tons of food will be handed out to patients assisted by the Aids and Tuberculosis Association of KwaZulu-Natal, a non-profit organisation which is overseen by Toti Rotarian, Mike Lesar.
On Monday, 2 March, local beneficiaries collected their share of the bounty from Rotary at Athlone Park Methodist Church. The beneficiaries will allocate the parcels to the needy in the communities they operate in.
“Locally, 205 food food parcels valued at R400 each and comprising of basic food items were handed out. Each parcel contains enough food to feed a family of six for six weeks,”said Rotary’s, Aneska du Pont.
Twenty-nine Rotary clubs in KZN participate in the distribution project. Overall, some 4,483 food parcels valued at R1,569,000 will be handed out.
