Vets need emergency weekend roster

We drove as fast as was safe.

EDITOR – Dear Toti veterinarians and pet owners, the dog that died in my lap, unable to get air into her lungs despite trying her best, was not my own dog.

We drove as fast as was safe.

Despite my attempt at ‘mouth to nose’ CPR, she died. It was a very awful and sad experience, especially barely a month after losing a very loved dog of our own.

The most tragic part was that, with at least four veterinarians in our local surrounds, not one was open on emergency/weekend duty. Of course I understand that, like any other human being, a vet and their clinic office staff need time off, but surely it is possible (and necessary) for there to always be at least one local vet on call? A roster for fair time off? For emergencies only? ‘Drive to Park Rynie or Sherwood’, we were told.

When you have an emergency, which it was, you need quick and close access to help. Could this be petitioned by all local pet owners?
