UPDATE: Assault charges against business siblings withdrawn

They are pursuing a civil case against Metro Police.

CHARGES of assault and resisting arrest filed against Isipingo siblings, Shelina, Ashie and Nolene Outar by Metro Police were withdrawn in Amanzimtoti Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 25 February.

The charges were laid after the Outars were arrested outside their Old Main Road, Isipingo business premises on 31 January, after an altercation with officers from the South Region offices.

A parking issue quickly turned into a fracas, which saw a large contingent of Metro officers converge on the premises. The Outars were thrown into the back of a Metro vehicle and taken to Isipingo police station, where they spent several hours in the cells.

The entire incident was captured on video and documented with photographs taken by Shelina.

They subsequently appeared in court on Monday, 2 February where they pleaded not guilty to the charges and opened a counter charge of assault against the Metro officers.

“The truth came out, we did nothing wrong,” said Shelina. The Outars feel vindicated by the court’s decision.

They are now pursuing a civil case against Metro Police.
