Isipingo businesses were disrupted on Monday, 20 April after two groups of protesters burnt tyres on Ernest Clokie Road.
According to Isipingo PR councillor, Jaco Pienaar the first group comprising of residents from the Dakota Beach informal settlement, protested during the day and demanded to see him. “They want electricty and houses,” said Cllr Pienaar. This stems from the Pelgrim informal settlement recently being electrified by eThekwini Municipality.
“We have arranged a meeting with the relevant departments and residents for Thursday, 23 April at the settlement.”
On Monday night, another group of residents also burnt tyres and demanded to see the councillor for the same reasons and they were told to attend Thursday’s meeting.
