Four criminals nabbed in a week

Residents to be vigilant when opening their doors and gates in the morning.

Armed response officers, local residents and the police made four arrests in the greater Toti area over the past week.

Blue Security operations manager, Brian Jackson said an armed response officer was called to the scene of a citizen’s arrest in Kingsway at lunchtime on Monday, 4 May.

“A young man was arrested at a business premises after he was identified via CCTV footage for allegedly stealing a bicycle from the property several weeks ago,” he said.

“Staff allegedly recognised him from the footage and made the arrest before calling the police to take over at the scene.”

Jackson urged residents to be vigilant when opening their doors and gates in the morning as trespassers had been arrested on properties between 6.30am and 7am.

He said an armed response officer had arrested an intruder in Linscott Road in the early hours of Sunday morning after he was seen jumping over a resident’s property.

In a third incident last week an armed response officer arrested an intruder who had been hiding on a property in School Road in the early hours of the morning.

“A resident told our officer that she had spotted the intruder interfering with the side windows of her property. The officer searched her property and found an intruder hiding under cardboard boxes in a cottage at the back of the yard.

He tried to flee the scene, but the officer managed to arrest him and handed him over to the Amanzimtoti police.”

A manager of a business in Seadoone Road in Doonside apprehended an alleged thief who attempted to steal two spray cans. “The manager decided to let the thief go once he had recovered the stolen goods,” he said
