At TGIF the 100 board was won by Sadie Quinn. Babs Swart’s number came up in the members’ draw, but as she was not present, next week’s draw will be worth R250. George Taylor’s number came up in the key draw, but sadly for him, he did not choose the winning key. This week’s key draw will be worth around R4,000.

The club hosted the qualifying masters this past weekend and there was some high quality bowling in both the men’s and women’s draws. ABC is extremely proud of Tokkie de Kock who came through her group to earn a place in the open masters in July, when the whole club will be behind her.

Good bowling is wished to the team of Doreen Salmond, Jeanne Alexander, Jane Coetzee and Michelle Pitchers who are playing in the SA nationals in Port Elizabeth this week.

Three women’s teams from Toti BC entered the annual Margate tournament from 4 to 8 May. Some 44 teams were entered in the women’s section from across SA with strong contenders. Well done to Robyn Hutton, Julie Sutherland, Mardi Dovale and Amanda Ninow who came in a very good 13th position; and to Heather Brown, Nicky Stirzaker, Jackie Holdrick and Karen Shepherd who came 21st. The team of Maxien Barnes, Jacqui Fouché, Linda McGregor and Gaynor Snyman, with Vera Broskie coming in to fill in when Gaynor got sick, did not do well in the rankings. However this team had spectators applauding when they faced the eventual winners of the tournament who were the star-studded side of Colleen Piketh (Commonwealth gold and bronze medallist), Ellen Cawker (ex-Protea), Jessica Henderson (Protea Commonwealth team manager), and Brenda Webb (ex-Protea and Colleen’s mother). In the final end an umpire was called to measure for shot. At this stage each side had won 10 ends. The shot went to Colleen’s side, but well done to all Toti teams on a magnificent effort.

Apologies are sent to Gladys Hughes for an error last week. It was Gladys who sponsored the whisky prize for the Spade Day, Many thanks as always for your generosity.

Everyone should keep checking the board for carded games and upcoming events, and those who are playing first round of men’s open singles on Saturday, should organise markers. Men’s scroungers are on Friday, 15 May, and Big Chicks resumes on Sunday,17 May.

Birthday wishes are sent this week to Alan Finlay, Robin Roberts, Les Brown and Dave McMillan. Special get well wishes are sent to Bill Beamson, husband of Barbara, who had a fall at the club and is now recovering in Kingsway Hospital, and to all members who are unwell.
