It’s all about human rights

We all know what the answer and solution to this problem is - bring back corporal punishment and the death sentence.

EDITOR – I have been following the Andrew Zondo debate in the Sun and would like to comment.

In the Bill of Rights in the Constitution of SA, it clearly states, among other things, that every person has the right to live.

When you kill someone else, no matter how, then you take away the most important human right that exist.

While apartheid was inhuman and wrong, what Andrew Zondo did on 23 December 1985 was the most inhuman and cowardly deed possible – he went for the soft targets. The sentence handed out to him was spot on and leaves him a coward not a hero. Nothing justifies you killing someone else unless your own life is in danger.

Ironically the biggest problem in SA, and indeed the world, is the lack of discipline in all facets of life and therefore an over-emphasis of human rights. The ill-disciplined child has more rights than the child who is at school to learn, the rapist has more rights than his victim and ultimately the murderer has more rights than the human being he has killed.

We all know what the answer and solution to this problem is – bring back corporal punishment and the death sentence. But we also know that because of the very same Bill of Rights, this will not happen.

JUSTICE
