A newborn baby was found dead in a pit toilet in the Hlanzeni settlement in Umkomaas on Thursday afternoon, 9 September.
“ER24 paramedics were alerted to the incident after the baby was apparently discovered by local police,” said ER24 spokesman, Russel Meiring.
“It is understood the police were notified and discovered the newborn in the pit toilet. They alerted ER24 paramedics to assist.
A paramedic climbed into the pit toilet to recover the baby. “They found that he was already dead – there was nothing they could do to revive him.”
Police will investigate further.
