Competition rages at Golden Oldies Games

Seniors showed off their skills in various games.

MOOIHAWENS Home for the Aged in Winklespruit celebrated its fourth Golden Oldies Games on Thursday and Friday, 1 and 2 October.

The event coincided with International Day of Older Persons, which was commemorated on 1 October.

Six teams, Team Residentia, Team Jabulani, Team Poinsettia Park, Team Ezimangweni, Community Team and Seniors in Action (NG Kerk Silwerkring) enthusiastically participated in a number of games on Thursday and a fancy dress parade on Friday.

The winners of the various games are:

* Bean bag balance – Team Residentia’s Sheila Lambert, Hester Bailie, Neels Poerstamper, Joachim Alledahn, Maryn Bridger and Elize Wheelwright.

* Build a tin tower – Community team’s Albie Bester, Graham Brown, Freddie Hetterscheidt, Maynard Calverley, Errol Theron and Ampie van Wyk.

* Pass the ball – Team Jabulani’s Marie Sequira, Marie Holman, David Herbert, Kobie Hewitt, Carol Wykes, Mike Joubert, Bettie McCarthy and Gena Barbosa.

* Duck walk – Community team’s Elize van Wyk, Lynette Brown, Maynard Calverley, Albie Bester and Peter Haynes.

* Throw, bounce and kick the ball – Team Jabulani’s Carol Wykes, Gonam Naicker, Gena Barbosa, Opal Lawson, Mike Joubert, Bettie McCarthy, Ambi Govender and David Herbert.
Floating trophies were awarded to Team Poinsettia Park for the best team spirit; Team Jabulani for the highest overall score; Team Residentia’s Edda Drapel for the most colourful fancy dress and

Team Jabulani’s Betty McCarthy for the most creative fancy dress.

Seniors are now looking forward to a bigger and better games in 2016, which will be possibly held at the Toti Civic Centre.
