A TEAM of 12 people made up of Isipingo, Toti and Umkomaas residents visited India last month to provide free medical services in the north of India.
The trip was arranged by Care Network International (CNI).
“This was an amazing experience for our first-time travellers to India,” said CNI managing director, Jeniffer Samson. “We try to do one overseas trip or visit another African country once a year.”
The team was made up of people between the ages of 25 and 77 years and they offered their medical expertise for free when they visited the town of Udaipur, which is a small city in the western Indian state of Rajasthan.
“The challenges faced were medical, social and economic which overwhelmed the team, but they put on a brave smile and a pair of gloves, and did what they had travelled to India to do,” said Jeniffer.
A primary healthcare clinic was set up in different villages outside the city of Udaipur for one week. Some people travelled up to three hours from villages as far away as 130km to receive medical treatment at the clinics.
“It was an eye opener for our team to see the masses who lack the basic commodities in life.”
CNI thanks its sponsors and supporters who made the trip successful. “We look forward to our next trip in December to help the disadvantaged across our borders.”
