CCPO keeps criminals at bay

One home owner declined to open a case and the CCPO was forced to release the suspect

A HOUSEBREAKER was nabbed with his stolen booty by members of the Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) on Tuesday, 12 July.

CCPO committee member, George Snodey said they received a call regarding a housebreaking that had occurred in Whitfield Drive at about 10am.

“A suspect who lives in close proximity to the premises was high on the CCPO’s list of suspects and an intensive search was conducted to find him by a large contingent of CCPO and Blue Security members,” said Snodey.

The man was found walking on the R603 by CCPO operations manager, Leon Joone about 30 minutes later. He was carrying a high pressure cleaner that he could not give a satisfactory explanation for. With the item not having been stolen from the Whitfield Drive housebreaking, it was handed in to Toti SAPS, along with the suspect, who was detained.

In a separate incident, a housebreaker was collared by CCPO foot patrol guards in Whitfield Drive, carrying big bags in the early hours of Wednesday morning, 13 July.

After questioning him, the man was taken back to premises in Storm Lilly Road in Astra Park. The home owner was woken up and on inspection, it was found that the man had broken into his garage and stolen the items.

“Unfortunately, the home owner declined to open a case and the CCPO was forced to release the man,” said Snodey. “Another disappointing point was the home owner was not even a CCPO client.”

Three robbers were apprehended by the CCPO after they stole a cellphone from a woman on the Umdoni Road bridge just before 7am that same day.

“A description of the three thieves was broadcast after we received a call about the street robbery,” said Snodey.

CCPO and Blue Security patrol officer, Mbuyiselo Mdunjane located the trio in Beach Road. After questioning them, the cellphone was found in their possession and the three were apprehended and taken to Toti SAPS, where they were arrested.

This high pressure cleaner was found in possession of a regular 'customer' of the CCPO. If you recognise it, it was handed in at Toti SAPS.
