Project Birthday brings cheer to Bobbi Bear children
Project Birthday is a 100% volunteer organisation that provides birthday parties to children in need.
Project Birthday partnered with Operation Bobbi Bear and hosted two birthday parties for the children that the little red bear helps on Saturday, 27 August.
Project Birthday is a 100% volunteer organisation that provides birthday parties to children in need.
The first party was held at the Bobbi Bear house and catered for the children under their immediate care, while the second party was held at the tree clinic site in Illovo and catered for about 300 children.
Each child was treated to a lunch bag containing a hot dog, packet of chips, lollipop and cool drink. Therafter all the children were treated to some birthday cake.
“It was truly a remarkable experience, moreso for the team members who cannot express the overwhelming sense of fulfilment that the smiles and sheer delight of these children brought to us,” said the project’s Barbara Chetty.
“We all know or have seen the sheer excitement and expectation a child experiences when it is their birthday. It is their very own special day, a day of celebration and remembering the joy their birth brought.
Sadly there are children around who will never know that experience, know what it feels like to receive a birthday present, blow out candles and cut a birthday cake, or how special it feels to be wished happy birthday. This was the stark realisation that saw an idea materialise into what we call Project Birthday.”
The initiative is run by a dedicated group of friends who identify needy and deserving children and provide them with an once-in-a-lifetime experience – a birthday party. The goal behind this concept is to give the deserving child or children one day in their lifetime where they are made to feel incredibly special, unique and deeply loved.
“Our passion and dedication is driven my our motto ‘Helping one person may not change the world, but it would change the world for one person’,” said Barbara.
This event would not have been possible without the generous contributions of sponsors whose names, as well as the pictures and videos can be found on the Facebook page ‘Project Birthday – Umkomaas‘. The project needs sponsors for upcoming parties. Help brighten the birthdays of children in need by sponsoring a party with gifts, cupcakes and games. If your business, group, or organisation would like to sponsor a party, call Barbara on 083-498-7791, email projectbirthdayuk@gmail.com or make contact on the project’s Facebook page.
