Teamwork nabs cellphone robbers

The woman was able to track her cellphone.

Quick response and teamwork between the CCPO, Toti SAPS, Blue Security and ET Rapid Response saw the arrest of two robbers on Thursday afternoon, 29 September.

According to Toti SAPS communication officer, Captain Charlene van der Spuy, a woman was loading bags in the boot of her vehicle when she was approached by two men.

One grabbed her from behind and she dropped her phone, while the other one grabbed her handbag and they fled the scene on foot.

“The victim alerted the police and gave a full description of the two men,” said Capt Van Der Spuy.

Toti SAPS and the security companies chased the robbers, before one was caught quite swiftly and the second one later in Berrio Road.

The woman was able to track her cellphone and with assistance from the Berrio residence crime Whatsapp group, the robbers’ movements were pinned down.

The stolen property was recovered.

The men were charged with robbery and possession of stolen property, and appeared in court on Friday, 30 September.
