Sniffer dog detects Sao Paolo traveller’s R2,3-m cocaine stash

Five handbags lined with secret compartments were found after traveller’s luggage was scanned

SARS Customs inspectors in the detector dog unit intercepted a woman passenger from Sao Paolo with 8kg of cocaine in a suitcase, estimated to be valued at R2.3-million, at OR Tambo International Airport yesterday (Sunday, 23 October).

The traveller’s luggage was scanned and five handbags lined with secret compartments were found inside one of the two suitcases, after the dog reacted positively to the bag.

The female passenger with the 8kg cocaine valued at R2,301,600 was handed to SA Police Service for further investigation and possible prosecution.
