Warner Beach resident duped out of R3,700

I want to warn others to be careful

A WARNER Beach resident is fuming after he parted with R3,700 for tarring to be done to his driveway, and the contractor disappeared with his money without completing the work.

Werner Brummer said he’d sourced the contractor’s name and phone number from one of the several light pole boards in the area which advertise tarring services.

“I was retrenched about five months ago and wanted to do a few projects before I put my house on the market,” said a disgruntled Werner.

The guy came for a quote with all the correct equipment to measure and assess. When he arrived with his team of workers, two guys started on the prep work but he said he needed to go buy materials and so he needed a deposit.”

Werner said he could kick himself for giving him R3,700 as a deposit. The man left and despite his promises to return, he hasn’t seen him since. “I called him several times and there was one excuse after the other – he was stuck in traffic and several others but the bottom line is he never returned.”

To add to his woes, about two hours after the contractor left, his two workers said they were going to buy some lunch – and they too disappeared without a trace.

“I’ve tried calling but he doesn’t answer his phone anymore. I want to warn others to be careful and guarded about paying contractors before the work is done.”
