Burglars tie up security guard in hardware robbery

Four men, armed with knives and a firearm approached and held him at gunpoint.

Four armed men tied up a security officer and broke into a hardware store on Old Main Road at about 11pm on Monday, 23 January.

“Response officers were dispatched to the premises and found the security officer tied up and the glass panels on a door shattered,” said Alpha Alarms communications officer, Krishnee Naidoo.

It is unconfirmed what was stolen.

The security officer gave a description of the men and a search was conducted by the Alpha officers, but no arrests were made.

According to the security officer, the four men, armed with knives and a firearm approached and held him at gunpoint.

They cut a lock and gained entry into the office. After ransacking the premises, they told the guard to scream once they had left. The guard shouted for help and another guard nearby called for assistance.

The Umlazi SAPS K9 unit and Isipingo SAPS attended the scene.
