A man suspected of throwing rocks from the Almond Road bridge over the N2 at Warner Beach yesterday, was released by police after they confirmed he had dispensed of litter.
Social media posts detailed how community members had collared and detained a man after a short chase at the Almond Road bridge.

They said he had been seen throwing rocks from the bridge onto the freeway below. The community members took him to the police station. Witnesses reported having seen him throw a rock.
Police accompanied the man to the scene, and thereafter released him.
Paramedic Leandros Fourie who attended the scene, clarified on social media that the man had thrown a juice bottle from the bridge.

The surge in the number of near-fatal and fatal rock throwing incidents on the province’s freeways has incited heightened vigilance by motorists since a late December 2017 incident on the N2 at Tongaat, in which two people were killed.

While police are reluctant to release the actual statistics, there have since been several reported incidents.
