OF THE four South Africans who have been reported missing after a flash flood and mudslide along the Nepal-Tibet border washed away villages and damaged roads and infrastructure on August 26, one is from Isipingo Beach.

Terricia Govender (33) had travelled overseas alone on August 12 and had been in Nepal on a pilgrimage as part of a tour group. According to reports, the flood hit early in Rasuwa, just north of Nepal’s capital Kathmandu, after the collapse of a glacial lake, leading to a massive downstream flow of water, ice, mud, and debris.

In 2024, Govender was a finalist in the ZEE TV Miss India South Africa beauty pageant. On August 20, she celebrated her 33rd birthday abroad.

The guided tour group that she was part of consisted of 12 Britons, two Irish nationals and four South Africans. The group was attempting to cross the Nepal-Tibet border when contact was lost.
