Wanted suspect nabbed, stolen goods recovered

A stolen VW Golf was spotted in Warner Beach by ET and CCPO officers.

It was a good day for local crime fighters on Thursday, 24 January, according to Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) committee member, George Snodey.

“It started with a good lead I received from an informer that I approached regarding a house-breaking in Warner Beach.” After identifying and questioning the buyer of the stolen goods, he offered to take Snodey and CCPO and Blue Security patrol officer, Mbuyiselo ‘Triple M’ Mdunjane to his house in Mfume, inland from Umgababa.

“On the way there, the buyer, who is a taxi driver, pointed out a suspect that was standing on the R603, and claimed he was one of the men involved in the sale of the stolen TV.”

He was apprehended, and with back-up from ET Rapid Response’s Louis van Ryneveld, the TV was recovered. Both the buyer and seller were taken to Toti detectives who identified the seller as a wanted suspect. “He has two outstanding warrants of arrests, one for house breaking and one for dealing in drugs.”

Snodey said soon after that a stolen VW Golf was spotted in Warner Beach by ET and CCPO officers. The vehicle was followed into Athlone Park, where it was jammed in with assistance from Blue Security, Metro Police and Toti SAPS officers. The three occupants were taken to Toti SAPS for further investigation.

An hour later another stolen vehicle was identified in Warner Beach by CCPO and ET members. This vehicle was followed into Umgababa with assistance from Blue Security and Metro Police officers and pulled over. The driver and vehicle were taken to Toti SAPS for further investigation.

“In between all this, we searched the bush behind DSM Mall in Winklespruit for suspects who were allegedly involved in a house-breaking earlier in the day in Almond Road, where a window was smashed and a laptop snatched.” An intense search by CCPO, Blue Security and ET officers failed to find the suspects.

Having identified them from the Warner Beach break-in, Snodey spent the afternoon looking for them. “I eventually found the one suspect standing around with the car guards at Toti Main Beach. I called for back-up and Tony Lokker and Louis from ET were there within minutes to assist me,” said Snodey. “The suspect was apprehended and taken to Toti detectives, where he quickly started ratting on his buddies.”
