Search continues for wanted handbag thief
The security personnel is in possession of a photo of the suspect and according to CCPO committee member, George Snodey, an arrest is imminent.
The Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO), with help from ET Rapid Response and Blue Security officers, chased a thief into Lovu Township after he robbed two women of their handbags on Wednesday, 30 January.
CCPO committee member, George Snodey said they received a report of two domestic workers who were robbed of their handbags on the Doonside footbridge over the N2 highway.
“We chased him into Lovu Township with the help of the Metro Police K9 unit who heard the commotion on our radio. The search lasted about three hours but the suspect eventually escaped.
“The chase however wasn’t in vain. After some of us had to leave to carry on with our own jobs, CCPO and Blue Security patrol officer, Mbuyiselo ‘Triple M’ Mdunjane and his crewman Mbambo Nhlanhla with the K9 unit continued the search. Although they never caught him, they followed up on leads which lead them to a person who gave them a photo of the guy we were chasing. It’s just a matter of time now and we will have him in handcuffs.”
