What to do and where to go in March...

SUNDAY, 10 MARCH: Amanzimtoti’s partially sighted and blind bowlers are urged to attend the Visually Impaired Bowlers Association’s weekly bowling afternoon at Berea Bowling Club in Durban every Sunday from 1pm to 4pm. Blind and partially sighted people can look forward to an afternoon of fun and fellowship playing bowls. Call chairman Peter Lonsdale on 031-201-3347 or secretary Clifford Hole on 031-903-1134.


SUNDAY, 10 MARCH: Toti Ramblers hikes through Paradise Valley Nature Reserve in Pinetown. All are welcome. The reserve is situated along the Umbilo River and covers an area of 100ha of coastal forest. It offers visitors a variety of wildlife which includes bushbuck, blue duiker, water mongoose, slender mongoose, otter, and numerous species of bats and birds. Entrance is R15 per person. Pensioners’ discounts are to be arranged on the day. There will be a picnic after the walk, so don`t forget your chair. Meet at Lords and Legends parking area at 7.15am to sort out transport. If new to the area, meet at Lords and Legends parking and travel in convoy to the reserve. An indemnity form must be completed with your ID number if not already done. MONDAY, 11 MARCH: SAARP hosts its next meeting at Toti Bowling Club at 9.30am to 11.30pm. Helen will be the guest speaker. She will do some fun exercises to see how good members have been with their vitamins and minerals. Members should note Toti library is no longer available and that all meetings for the year will be held at the bowling club. New members over 50 are welcome. TUESDAY, 12 MARCH: Amanzimtoti Women’s Institute meets at 9.15am at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 615 Kingsway, Amanzimtoti. The change of venue is due to the activities room at Amanzimtoti library being closed for repairs. Join in for a morning of fellowship. For further enquiries call Yvonne Dixie on 074-190-0949.


WEDNESDAY, 13 MARCH: Upper South Coast Garden Club meets every second Wednesday of the month at 9.30am. The venue is published in the Sun of the previous week. Membership is open to anyone interested in gardening even if you don’t have a garden. Annual membership fees are R30. Visitors are welcome. The next meeting takes place at Hutchison Park, Amanzimtoti. Take a hat and wear comfortable shoes. Members will have tea at Lords and Legends for their own account after a walk around the sportsfields. In case of rain, the meeting will be cancelled. Call Lydia on 083-642-2990 or 031-903-4212.


SUNDAY, 17 MARCH: TC Robertson Nature Reserve hosts a St Patrick’s Day Festival at 9am to 4pm. There will be a market, beer garden, children’s entertainment, live music, food stalls and much more for the whole family to enjoy. Call Theresa Layfield on 062-002-5190.


THURSDAY, 21 MARCH: The next full moon beach walk takes place from Baggies Warner Beach at 6pm. This walk is to Winkle beach and back. All are welcome to join in. Dogs must be on leads. Call Yvonne on 074-190-0949.


SUNDAY, 24 MARCH: Enjoy an autumn craft market at 111 Pig and Whistle Drive, Clansthal from 9am to 2pm. The community of Clansthal works hard to ensure its conservancy is pristine so visitors can enjoy the beautiful facilities. To raise funds for essential costs, Keith and Liz Cunningham open their home to host an enjoyable Sunday where visitors can relax in a beautiful garden. There will be lots of local arts, crafts, music and fine food to enjoy. This is a private garden with resident dogs. As such, no visiting dogs are allowed. Lions host health checks

KINGSBURGH Lions Club hosts its next health testing session on Saturday, 16 March.

Every second Saturday of the month, from 10.30am to 12.30pm, Kingsburgh Lions Club hosts free blood pressure and diabetes testing at Pick ’n Pay Arbour Crossing.


Ramble along with walkers

TOTI Ramblers walk every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 6am from Lords and Legends parking area. All are welcome to join this bunch of intrepid walkers.

Check your mate over chess

CHESS players meet on alternate Wednesdays at either Kingsburgh library or Amanzimtoti library.

There is no charge. The time will be decided to suit the players.

All levels of chess players, from beginners to advanced, are welcome.
