The Sun waves goodbye to editor Michelle

Michelle is a leader, a pillar of strength, a role-model and a confidant to those who have had the privilege of working with her.

EMPRESS of an editor, Michelle Izatt bid farewell on Wednesday, 3 April to the South Coast Sun office which she managed for some 15 years since taking over editorship on 1 April, 2004.

Michelle now looks forward to filling the managerial position at Caxton’s South Coast Herald.

Beginning her journalism career in November 1996 at the Amanzimtoti-based Sun, her leaving will prove a tremendous loss to Amanzimtoti and a massive gain to the Port Shepstone-based sister paper.

The staff of the South Coast and Southlands Sun newspapers stand together outside the Doonside office on Wednesday, 3 April.

Michelle has taken both the South Coast and Southlands Sun Newspapers from strength to strength, and much of the success the papers, which both operate from the Doonside office, are a testament to the immense effort she invested in them.

Written on the beginning of Michelle’s editorship:

Michelle’s role in the workplace far exceeds that of an editor and even branch manager. She is a leader, a pillar of strength, a role-model and a confidant to those who have had the privilege of working with her.

Colleagues brought forward Michelle’s qualities, mentioning her fair and just decision making, the genuine care she possesses for her colleagues and the productive work environment that she has created in which those from all walks of life can learn and grow towards self-actualisation.

Michelle can be commended for the patience and guidance she offers many first-time journalists, designers, salesmen and interns, gifting them a warm and encouraging introduction into the working world.

It is agreed that her intrinsically-motivated approach to every task radiates outwards towards those she works with, and one cannot help but take life by the horns when an opportunity arises.

Michelle Izatt is seen with colleagues at the Caxton year-end function last year.

Possessing an unreal love for the tightly-woven Amanzimtoti community, Michelle has impacted many lives over her years reporting on the happenings of the town, and exampled how to fairly and accurately give voice to both joys and sorrows experienced by the town.

The staff of the South Coast Sun and Southlands Sun newspapers congratulate Michelle on the appointment of branch manager of the South Coast Herald, and wish her all the best on her new journey, certain that she will continue her legacy as a great leader.
