Sapphire Coast business, residential, public space verge contest deadline extended

The contest offers the community a chance to win great prizes sponsored by Illovo Nursery.

AVID Sapphire Coast gardeners are reminded to enter their verges into the business, residential and public space verge contest by the end of this month, Wednesday, 31 July.

The contest, launched by Sapphire Coast Tourism, Illovo Nursery and South Coast Sun in February, offers the community a chance to win great prizes sponsored by Illovo Nursery.

The Sapphire Coast stretches from the eZimbokodweni River north of Athlone Park, Amanzimtoti down the coast to the Mahlongwa River just south of Crocworld, Clansthal and inland up to Umbumbulu.

On completion, photos of your manicured verges should be entered into the competition by emailing these to hollyk@dbn.caxton.co.za and also post them on Sapphire Coast Tourism’s Facebook page. All entrants must understand that by submitting their photo entries, these photos become the property of the Sun and Sapphire Coast Tourism.

A panel of judges consisting of members from various environmentally-conscious groups in the community will judge the entered verges and score them.

Business, residential and public spaces (schools, churches, parks or areas alongside train-tracks, for example) are the three categories that entries will be grouped in. The photos must be recent, and of gardens that were created within 2019. Romy Wenzel of Sapphire Coast Tourism explained that this contest looks to not only motivate the community to keep their verges tidy and not depend solely on the municipality, but also to uplift the area.

A winner will be chosen, and other spot prizes will be awarded. Prize-giving will be hosted by Illovo Nursery.

For more information and advice, call Illovo Nursery on 031-916-2491 or 031-916-1849 or email illovonursery@telkomsa.net.

Entrants must supply their name, address and contact number along with their photograph. For more information, call the Sun on 031-903-2341.
