Fake news is dangerous [LETTER]

I wish to remind your readers that ‘fake news’ is everywhere today.

EDITOR – In response to ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’ in your 12 July edition, I wish to remind your readers that ‘fake news’ is everywhere today.

From the White House to our own local social media – when people have an axe to grind or a score to settle, they use fake news as a weapon. It has proved to be dangerous and has even caused people to take their own life. So, the fake news and false rumors that have been spread by a vicious, uncaring, ignorant individual in our town about 4 Paws and a Tale is disgraceful and does not belong in our community and neither does the person who spoke all those lies.

I have been the treasurer of 4 Paws since its inception in 2013. I have access to all the financial transactions in their bank accounts and I can unequivocally state that this charitable organisation is run with impeccable honesty and integrity with only the welfare of our four legged friends in mind. These qualities are certainly not beholden to the individual who spread the malicious rumors.

I trust that this concludes the matter and hope that the compassionate and honest people who have been supporting 4 Paws over these many years, will continue to do so.
