Man arrested for reporting false case
Despite police arresting and charging people previously for opening false cases, the trend still continues.

The Isipingo Vehicle Crime Investigating Unit has opened a case of defeating the ends of justice after a man reported that his vehicle was stolen in Tongaat, last month.
The suspect provided police officers with contradicting statements and following an investigation into the allegations he made, the investigating officer arrested him.

Provincial police spokesperson, Col Thembeka Mbhele said valuable police resources are being wasted to investigate ‘crimes’ that did not occur. Despite police arresting and charging people previously for opening false cases, the trend still continues. “It is alleged that the man reported that his vehicle was stolen from Sanele Nxumalo Road in Tongaat. The police officers commenced with an investigation which led to the recovery of the stolen vehicle in Cato Manor, within an hour after it was reported stolen. The driver (33) of the vehicle was arrested and charged with theft of the motor vehicle.”
He appeared in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court and the case was remanded for additional investigation.
Following further investigations, the owner of vehicle was interviewed and police quickly realised that his story was not above-board.
“It is alleged that he handed over the vehicle to his friend as he could not afford to pay the instalment on the vehicle. He was directly arrested and charged for defeating the ends of justice,” Mbhele added.
