Chris snags monthly mug title at Umkomaas Golf Club

Umkomaas’ annual betterball competition takes place on the long weekend of 21 September and 22 September.

The Spring treatment enjoyed the rain last week and the greens are coming on nicely at Umkomaas Golf Club.

Thanks to members and visitors for their patience as the club goes through this necessary annual process to ensure it has glorious greens for Summer.

It was a delight to have past members, John and Annette Gillett visit from the UK and they joined in the golf and off-course fun like old times.

Thankfully the weather returned to the sunny days expected in September after the heavy rains. Twenty-five golfers competed for the Halfway Malanda monthly mug, with Chris Pillay emerging victorious on 73 nett. Winners in the other divisions were Nelson Moonsamy (A), Tom Naicker (B) and Rory Bernadis (C).

The women held a fundraiser in the form of a five-club competition and the decision of which weapons to choose proved a challenge for most.

The betterball competition was won on an impressive 41 points by Patrick Ndlovu and visiting past member John Gillett. Annette Gillett teamed up with Greg Andersson to finish on 40 points, while third place was won by Jacques Slabbert and Adrian Rodgers on 37 points.

Judging by the great points, more people could do with playing with a handful of clubs in future.

Umkomaas’ annual betterball competition takes place on the long weekend of 21 September and 22 September.

The competition, now in its fourth year, brings in golfers from the inland reciprocity clubs, but is open to any keen to enjoy the club’s glorious course, lively entertainment and friendly atmosphere.

Tickets cost R400 per person for the two-day competition, including live entertainment and great prizes.

If you’re keen to join the club, call Francois Russouw on 039-973-1042 to put your name down. Visit the club’s Facebook page for the latest information.
