“The seemingly increased number of homeless people on the streets of Amanzimtoti us of great concern. Despite law enforcement structures continuously transporting individuals to homeless shelters erected by the city in terms of responsibilities created by the Disaster Management Act, new arrivals appear on the increase. Although lockdown restrictions seem to have had an effect on the annual winter migration of the homeless to the sunny east coast shores, a few bitter residents appear to have defeated the strict movement regulations in favour of their usual seaside vacation,” he said.

Beetge added that once again citizens are reminded that street people are continuously leaving the comfort of shelters where food and facilities are available to beg on the streets in an effort to sustain substance habits.
