Pot shot at cops

NPA officers came under fire last week, when a patrol vehicle was sprayed with AK-47 bullets on the N2 near Umbogintwini.
Officers Gary Perfect and Sarel Jacobs were at Winklespruit turnoff, when a Ford bakkie with a broken headlight sped past them. The officers pursued the vehicle and tried to get the driver to pull over. The bakkie reached speeds of up to 180 kph, trying to elude the officers.

 

Two die on N2

Two people were killed and 13 injured in an accident on the N2 near Kingsway Hospital last Friday.
According to eye witnesses, a minibus had a blow-out, causing the vehicle to swerve from the fast lane into the slow lane, and hit a bakkie. The minibus rolled and landed in a ditch. A man and a woman were killed, two others sustained serious head and neck injuries.

 

Body of baby found in Winkle 

Police are investigating the death of a baby found on the corner of Gordon and Middleton Roads, Winklespruit.
An NPA worker found the baby. An appeal is made to anyone who might have seen someone drop off an object wrapped in a blue skirt, either on Monday or Tuesday, 29 or 30 May. The worker was clearing bushes on the verge when he found the body of an Asian baby police believe was not older than three weeks.

 

Gang attack at Bazley 

The owners of a caravan park were robbed and terrorised by six armed gunmen last week.
The MacNicol family, owners of Bazley Caravan Park, were held up by the gunmen on Thursday at about 10am. The suspects, armed with AK-47s and handguns, arrived in a bakkie and bought chips and cold drinks from the shop. The men were eating outside when Ian MacNicol went outside to collect something. One of the men jumped up and stuck a gun in MacNicol’s back and forced him back into the shop.

 

Kingsway High learners save pensioners from hijacking

Fast action by Kingsway High School learners foiled a daylight hijacking attempt on an elderly couple in Umdoni Road last week.
The Twini couple, who wish to remain anonymous, were on their way home in Maple Road on Friday afternoon when a car sped up behind them, overtook and swerved in front of them, cutting them off. The assailants jumped out of their car and ran towards the couple’s car. One of the men pulled the drivers door open and tried to grab the car keys.
