Drug dealer arrested following high speed chase
A man was arrested and detained at Umkomaas SAPS. He will appear in Umkomaas court on the case of possession of drugs.
A drug dealer was arrested following a high-speed chase on Tuesday morning, 28 July. The ET Tactical Response Team was informed of a suspected drug dealer heading towards Amanzimtoti via the N2.
The suspect was being chased by the Umkomaas SAPS.
ET’s Tony Lokker said, “Our teams immediately mobilised at the various off ramps along the N2. It was not long and one of our vehicles spotted the suspect by Illovo. The suspect was driving at very high speeds, and very recklessly. A high speed chase ensued. The Durban Flying Squad, who was waiting at the Winkle off ramp, joined the chase, which continued back onto the N2. Just past the Winkle Interchange, the suspect was boxed in by our TRT and the Flying Squad, and apprehended. Narcotics was found in his possession.”

eThekwini District Communication Commander, Captain Carmen Rhynes said, “At around 10am, Umkomaas SAPS members were patrolling the Illfracombe area when they noticed a known drug dealer driving in a white Hyundai i20. On approaching the vehicle to conduct a search, it sped off abruptly. Umkomaas SAPS immediately chased after the vehicle that was driven by a foreign national. The driver tried to push the police vehicle off the road. The SAPS members immediately requested back up as the vehicle increased speed along the N2 towards Durban and was dangerously pushing other drivers also off the road. Back up from SAPS Flying Squad and ET Response teams were immediately mobilised at the various off ramps along the N2. It was not long when the vehicle was spotted by the other teams. The suspect was driving at high speeds, and recklessly as Umkomaas pursued the vehicle in the high speed chase. The Durban Flying Squad, was waiting at the Winkle off ramp and joined the chase, which continued back onto the N2. Just past the Winkle Interchange, the suspect was boxed in by ET Rapid Response and the Flying Squad, and quickly apprehended. Narcotics was found in his possession.”

General Vukani Mgobhozi, Ethekweni District Commissioner said “I am glad all police and community members are safe – and one more drug dealer is off the street. This was excellent team work that brought in a good arrest.”
