Kingsburgh Lions Club back in full swing
The Lions’ diabetes testing at Pick n Pay Arbour Crossing has also resumed.
“Our first food collection since March proved to be most successful, thanks to the humbling generosity of Checkers shoppers earlier in the month. Kingsburgh Child and Family Welfare were the grateful recipients of this generosity,” said president Tony Marron.
Sweet treats have been bought and are ready to be packaged to gladden the hearts of young children in the community at Christmas time. The Lions’ diabetes testing at Pick n Pay Arbour Crossing has also resumed and they will be back on Saturday, 12 December to test blood sugar levels as well as blood pressure.
In the meantime, members are hard at work rehearsing a nativity playlet to be performed for Jabulani residents next month. “There are no seasoned Thespians among us, but the enthusiasm and joy to be doing something meaningful to spread a little Christmas cheer is palpable! A few of our members also stood out in their bright yellow T-shirts during a beach clean-up day. It was hard work, but most enjoyable, according to those who were able to participate.”

Amid all the excitement to be busy again and trying to fill certain needs in the community, members were deeply shocked and devastated to hear of the untimely passing of one of their new members in a motor vehicle accident last week. “Qualified nursing Sister, Vicky Sikhosana, who was an integral part of our diabetes testing team, is going to be sorely missed as a member, but more importantly as a close and much loved friend.
Although she was only recently inducted as a member, she had been a friend to many of us for a number of years and assisted at our diabetes testing sessions for a while before officially joining the club. She was loved by the regulars who were tested, giving them advice and encouraging them to exercise and adopt healthier eating habits, where necessary. Our condolences and love to her wonderful family and colleagues,” said Tony.
