Poinsettia Park resident loses battle with Covid-19

At the time of his death, Chunky served as vice chairperson of the Poinsettia Park Executive Committee, as well as its maintenance manager.

Francois ‘Chunky’ de Lange lost his battle against Covid-19 on Monday, 4 January at the ripe old age of 72. Chunky will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 44 years, Cynthia, his Fort Beaufort family, his step-children, Cherylin and Gary and their respective families, and his precious granddaughters who lovingly referred to him as ‘Da’ and on whom he doted.

Schooled at Adelaide High School, a product of the SA Police College, Pretoria and a long standing and highly respected employee of the Department of Labour. Chunky will be remembered for his involvement in the post 1994 transformation process within the latter, through which he mentored, encouraged and inspired many. Former colleagues remember him for his great work ethic, his professionalism and sense of humour and ‘a gentle giant who served his country and its people with dignity and distinction’.

At the time of his death, Chunky served as vice chairperson of the Poinsettia Park Executive Committee, as well as its maintenance manager. An active member of Poinsettia Park, he fulfilled many roles, and was loved and respected by all. He was described as a larger than life invaluable friend to residents, management and staff alike. He will be sorely missed.

He was loved beyond measure and the personification of the perfect grandfather, Chunky was one of the most selfless and kindest human beings on earth. His impact on so many has been profound and he will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him so dearly.
