Suspect arrested following chase in Amanzimtoti

He immediately gave chase and successfully apprehended the suspect and recovered several stolen items that had been thrown into the bush. The suspect was handed over for arrest to members of SAPS and the stolen items returned to the owner.

A suspected thief was apprehended by members of Amanzimtoti SAPS following a chase with an ADT security officer, on Tuesday, 12 January. Armed response officer, Dumisani Bhukosini, was dispatched after a homeowner’s alarm activated.

“Upon arrival, Bhukosini spotted a suspect in a nearby bush fitting the description provided by the homeowner,” said Fidelity ADT’s district manager for KwaZulu-Natal, Vaughan Pillay.

He immediately gave chase and successfully apprehended the suspect and recovered several stolen items that had been thrown into the bush. The suspect was handed over for arrest to members of SAPS and the stolen items returned to the owner.

“We commend officer Bhukosini for his swift response and bravery. I encourage residents to conduct regular security assessments to resolve any vulnerable or unprotected areas to deter opportunistic criminals. Security technologies such as CCTV, outdoor beams and roof passives are often used to proactively prevent crime.”
