
Huge industrial park for Twini
A CONTRACT has been awarded for the R19-million bulk earthworks and stormwater contracts to kick start a major industrial township at Umbogintwini.
The contract involves moving 1,7 million cubic metres of earth in an operation which will create 65 stands, of varying size, for industrial development. The project is expected to provide about 10 000 permanent jobs over the next five years.
The industrial township, known as Southgate Industrial Park, consists 127 Ha and is about half the size of Prospecton.
Top shop for Athlone Park
ATHLONE PARK will have its own Pick ‘n Pay family franchise.
Plans were passed for the R4,5-m to R5-million project being developed by a Durban businessman. The complex, will be 2210 square metres in extent and Pick ‘n Pay will take up 1760 square metres and have 10 till outlets.
“This is the sixth Natal family franchise,” said a spokesman for Pick ‘n Pay. The plans include a post office with 700 post boxes.
Monkey attacks baby
A PEACEFUL Sunday afternoon was shattered by the scream of a one-year-old boy when he was attacked by a monkey.
Kyle Eaby was playing in the garden. “The yard is fenced in and there are always monkeys around on the roof or in the yard. At the time of the incident there was a troop of about five monkeys,” said Gwenda Eaby, Kyle’s mother.
“My friend, Tara Liebenberg, and I were in the kitchen watching Kyle play. I went to the bedroom while Tara kept an eye on Kyle. Next thing we heard a scream.” Kyle had been attacked by a mother monkey.

Winkle intersection is fateful for the Jourdans
IN a bizarre twist of fate, the daughter of the family who lost their domestic in a car crash was injured 400m from the scene in an accident two weeks later.
17-Year-old Carla Jourdan was knocked off her motorbike at the R603 intersection, near the Winklespruit Testing Grounds, less than 400m from the scene where the Jourdans’ domestic, Gladness Ndlovu, had been killed.
Emergency services treated Carla at the scene for various lacerations and a head injury, then sent her to Kingsway Hospital.

Community policing forum is active in the area
THE Amanzimtoti Community Policing Forum kicked the year off with plans to make a concerted effort to join forces with all concerned in a bid to bring down the rising crime rate in the area.
Cpt Anton Booysen urged the public to help police in the fight against car theft. The police suggest more use of preventative measures such as anti-theft devices and parking in well lit areas.
Certain areas in the Amanzimtoti area are known to police as “hot spots” for car theft. One of these areas is Karridene beach.
