[WATCH] – Hundred candles for birthday girl
In her glory days, she was nicknamed, Bubbles, because of her warm and happy personality. A personality that to this day still shines through her beautiful smile.

A century ago the world was recovering from the Spanish flu, alcohol was prohibited, women were finally able to vote and radios were the main source of entertainment. It was also the year when June Watt was born.
She celebrated her 100th birthday on Wednesday, 3 February, surrounded by friends and family at Mooi Hawens.
She was pampered with delicious treats, beautiful roses, special gifts and balloons. June’s daughter, Anne Knoetze, her husband, Jock and her granddaughter, Jess Lodetti, planned this very special celebration. To ensure that Covid-19 protocols were followed, the other residents of Mooi Havens could unfortunately not attend the celebration.
She was born in Zimbabwe (then Rhodesia) where she loved gardening and camping. June is described by loved ones as an amazing, strong and independent individual. In her glory days, she was nicknamed, Bubbles, because of her warm and happy personality. A personality that to this day still shines through her beautiful smile.
She moved to Mooi Hawens almost 20 years ago and has formed a strong bond with another resident, Cecil Tame. One of the highlights of her life was when she won the lottery and received 20 000 pounds, the currency of Zimbabwe at that time. She also ran a gymnasium with her late husband, Alan, at the Durban Yacht Club, which was something she was highly passionate about. Fitness is one of her great loves and she is still an active member of the gym at Mooi Hawens.
“She is an incredible woman filled with so much of warmth and light,” said Anne. “She is incredibly independent and takes care of herself. She has lived a long and happy life.” Fondly recalling a funny and unusual story, Anne said, “Mom was in her mid-70s and she lived on a farm at the time. She insisted on climbing to the roof to fix the satellite dish on her own. She fell off the roof and broke her leg. She always wanted to be independent.”
She was also the winner of a beauty competition hosted by Mooi Havens a few years ago. In her younger days, she received a top salesperson award for the year at a well-known cosmetic brand. June is a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was blessed with two children, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren who she loves dearly.
“It is a privilege and an honour to be in the presence of June. We wish her happy birthday and hope that she celebrates many more,” said the manager of Mooi Hawens, Andries Visagie.
