Exploring the community’s wonders
The local community tourism organisation is hoping to set up road markers as well as a lookout point by engaging with the local community soon.
Sapphire Coast Tourism (SCT) is on a mission to showcase the area’s hidden gems. Members of the SCT in partnership with Gary’s Horses and Cameron Smith, a local videographer, embarked on a trip to showcase Nungwane Falls. It is a waterfall that is 100 metres high and drops into a deep pool in the heart of Umbumbulu.
“Beautiful sceneries, tranquility and nature at its best. The falls can be accessed by horseback ride, 4×4 or mountain bike due to rough terrain once entering the dirt track, off the R603. Gary’s Horses, a registered SCT member, as well as some avid riders, ventured on an epic 50km ride in the saddle, departing at Gary’s Horses, Amanzimtoti, to Nungwane Falls, Umbumbulu, for the SCT team to capture the breathtaking views and sights to compile a video documentary highlighting rural tourism routes.”
While the adventurous riders passed an old Catholic Mission, followed by the Nungwane River, trekking into and along the valley, local shebeens as well as Nungwane Dam, the SCT team made its way to the Nungwane Falls by 4×4 along the R603, heading towards Umbumbulu.
“Definitely a day trip to be added to the bucket list of intermediate or experienced riders when visiting the Sapphire Coast.”
The local community tourism organisation is hoping to set up road markers as well as a lookout point by engaging with the local community soon. This is an attempt to boost tourism in Sapphire Coast’s rural areas.
