#50YearsAgo A school rich with tradition

In 1972, Kingsway High School had to be split into a junior and senior section.

KINGSWAY High School opened its doors on March 27, 1953, on the site now occupied by Amanzimtoti High.

The official opening ceremony was held in April that year with the then administrator of KwaZulu Natal, Mr DG Shepstone, as the guest of honour.

Originally, the school had been the senior section of the then Warner Beach Government School but the need soon arose for a separate high school.

The first headmaster of Kingsway High School was Mr DG Truscott.

The junior high section remained on the original site, while the senior high section occupied the present buildings of the school.

In 1976, the senior high section became Kingsway High School as we know it today, and accepted pupils from standard six to matric.
