Keira Hall only qualified as a lifeguard two months ago.

A NEWLY qualified teen lifeguard saved the day in Warner Beach recently when she rescued a man who was being swept out to sea by a rip current.

Keira Hall (15) and the Warnerdoone Lifesaving Club team were on duty patrolling at Baggies Rocks, which falls outside of the designated bathing area.

“We were called by family members of the man who was in trouble and needing help,” said Keira.

She jumped into the water and swam out, rescuing the exhausted man, who was more than twice her body size. Her team helped carry the man to the beach where he was treated for injuries he sustained from the rocks.

“I really love and respect the sea, so I wanted to help the public to prevent any unnecessary drownings. That’s why I became a lifeguard,” said the Grade 10 learner at St. Henry’s Marist College.

Keira started lifesaving when she was eight-years-old and qualified as a junior lifeguard on December 5, 2021. In a statement released on Facebook, the club congratulated Keira and her team for a job well done.

“Well done, Warnadoone. The gentleman has been happily reunited with his family,” read the statement.
