Avid golfers fill the fairways at Amanzimtoti Country Club
Golfers were hesitant to play a match in the persistent rain.
THE men’s team played a bonus bogey competition at Amanzimtoti Country Club. Winning on a score of +10 was Dillon van Rensburg and Michael Iggesund and in 2nd place on a score of +8 was George Murdoch and Martin Tait. In 3rd place on +7 was Mike Halse and Nico Vogel, followed by Louis Steyn and Piet Carsten on +6. Nearest the pin on the 7th was Peter Avellini and on the 17th was Piet Carsten.
The women’s team began their 1st round of the knockout match play pairs. Going through to the 2nd round were Atri Wilson and Magali Crosthwaite, Gerda Heydenrych and Frances Hoole, Brenda Morgan and Lassity Davis. Adri Slabbert and Sue Daniels took a shortcut through to the next round having a bye.

The 2nd round of league took place with the A side having a bye, while the B side took on Maidstone and the Toti Allerton side took on the might of Ethekwini at Royal Durban.
The B side in their morning foursomes went up 3-1 and in the afternoon singles won four of their matches to edge Maidstone 7 to 5. The Allerton side went down 3-1 in the morning foursomes with only Mark Bingham and Nico Vogel winning their game. Singles were tightly contested with Toti edging out eThekwini 4.5 to 3.5.
Notables for Toti was Johan Roux, Cecil Heydenrych, Ronnie Nair and Patrick Cruikshank winning 1 up. Mark Bingham took a half point. Piglet for the day was Les Brown going down 5 and 4, also to mention losing his driver on the 3rd hole and his lob wedge on the 1st. Toti lost on the day 6.5 to 5.5, but it was still a good result as eThekwini proved to be favourites to win.
The club hosted its second monthly mug competition a while ago. Heavy rains the night before and consistent showers on the day allowed most golfers to sit at home and wonder ‘what if’?
A few brave men took up the challenge and the competition was downgraded to an individual stableford. Winning on a score of 37 points was Franco Welman, followed by Michael Mare, Martin Tait and Frik Blom. There were no women competing.

The men’s team played a 4-ball alliance with 2 scores to count. Winning on a score of 97 points was Kalvin van Rensburg, Kendall Cormack, Bester Swart and Stents Stentiford. Coming second, some distance back was Patrick Fowler, Bryan Algate, Chris van Oudsthoorn and Neil Oberholzer. Closest to the 7th pin was Martin Tait and on the 17th was Michael Slabbert.

Play the individual stableford on a Wednesday after 11:30 or the sundowner (9 holes) on a Friday afternoon.
