Ward 97 councillor updates the community

There is a desperate need of rubber ducks to assist with rescues in the Isipingo Beach area.

WARD 97 councillor, André Beetge, provides an in-depth update on the current situation in and around Amanzimtoti. From electricity and water outages to rescue attempts and flooded roads, it is covered.

According to Beetge, the power outage affecting many parts of Warner Beach and St Winifreds is highly unlikely to be restored today, due to a shortage of technicians in the field. Many workers haven’t been able to make it to work due to the flooding. Residents are urged to be patient as the City attempts to restore power to all affected areas.

Water pump stations in Prospecton are still fully submerged so water is not being pumped at the moment.

“There are currently rescue operations underway in Prospecton and Isipingo Beach. Boats are being launched to take people to higher ground. Although there are people who have been rescued by air, many still remain trapped in buildings,” said Beetge.

Residents who have the skills and rubber ducks are urged to assist. Contact Beetge on 082 718 8137. There are a lot of roads still closed and a lot of washaways outside the town. Residents are cautioned against using the roads and are advised to remain indoors and stay vigilant.
