Raise funds for wildlife while walking in the wild
The line-up for the day include a 5km trail walk, followed by a delicious lunch in a relaxed nature setting.
NATURE lovers and wildlife enthusiasts can get in touch with nature by joining the exciting Walk in The Wild trail walk at the Kenneth Stainbank Nature Reserve on August 27.
The event, which will be hosted by the Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (Crow), is aimed at encouraging residents to embrace nature, support wildlife and unite for conservation. Proceeds from the 5km fun walk will go towards the animals at the centre.
The centre’s marketing manager, Sophie Berg, said, “This unique gathering aims to connect people with the inspiring beauty of nature while promoting the indispensable efforts of Crow as a pioneering force in wildlife conservation.”

In 1995, Crow hosted a fun walk consisting a 3km, 5km and 10km walk, with the aim of raising funds for the centre and simultaneously educating the public on the nature and wildlife that surrounds them.
At that time, it was a huge success, therefore the centre’s management team decided to reignite the event and rebrand it as Walk in the Wild.
“In the heart of the Kenneth Stainbank Nature Reserve, participants will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the splendour of nature, getting up close with the wonders of wildlife. The walk offers an opportunity for participants to learn from conservation experts and engage in thought-provoking conversations about wildlife and environmental conservation. The finish festival will provide a relaxed setting for attendees to savour a delectable lunch while exchanging insights with like-minded individuals and experts in the field,” added Berg.
The first 500 participants will each receive an exclusive goody bag and a Walk in the Wild t-shirt as a memento of their involvement in the informative and educational fundraising event.
Attendees will also stand a chance to win tickets to Flag Animal Farm, uShaka Sea World, Monkeyland KZN, or Crocworld and also to some of the region’s most beloved wildlife attractions.
Companies can enter the Company Challenge, which is a friendly competition among participating companies to see who can mobilise the most participants for the 5km trail walk.

“We believe this challenge is an excellent platform for fostering team spirit, encouraging camaraderie and showcasing your company’s dedication to the environment and community. By taking part in the Company Challenge, the company not only engages in a memorable team-building experience but also supports the crucial fundraising efforts of Crow. The company with the highest number of participants joining the walk will be crowned the Company Challenge Champions and receive special recognition and a prize for their outstanding support,” Berg said.
The walk will be held from 09:00 to 13:00. Entry fee is R100 per adult and R75 per child (under 16). For more information, call 031 462 1127.
