Mother of Peace asks community for donations

Mother of Peace – Illovo Children's Home is hosting a night fundraiser at Splash Waterworld today (February 2) from 17:30 to 20:30.

AS THE new year gets into full swing, the Mother of Peace – Illovo Children’s Home (MoP) asks the community for its continued support as it faces the challenges that come with looking after 65 children.

The home’s fundraiser, Norma-Jean Shore, said the mounting daily operational and maintenance costs have caused her to reach out to companies and individuals for donations.

“Firstly, we would like to extend our appreciation and gratitude to all companies, individuals, corporations and the community for their support in 2023 for the children’s home. You may be wondering how to become involved or contribute. But as the saying goes, ‘many hands make light work’, your valuable contribution, be it financial, in kind, material and/or services, will culminate in each step forward being a step closer to eliminating the urgency of the situation,” said Norma-Jean.

MoP is a registered non-profit and public benefit organisation that works to restore traditional family life to orphaned, distressed and vulnerable children. Children under its care range from babies to 18-year-olds. Those over the age of 18 participate in the Exit Programme, which ensures a holistic transition into independent living as an adult.

Norma-Jean thanked Gavin and Linda Gradwell for their valuable dedication and determination to see MoP flourish as they have managed and directed the organisation for 21 years.

“They are relentless in pursuing their end goal of achieving success. I would also like to thank the community for supporting the wors-roll sales, which take place every Saturday at Pick ’n Pay Winklespruit. This initiative awards MoP a percentage of the profits, including the tin collection which last year raised R1 817,” she said.

MoP will host a night fundraiser at Splash Waterworld this evening (February 2), and the entrance fee is R100 per person. It starts at 17:30 and will end at 20:30. Braai facilities will be available. More updates are available on the Mother of Peace – Illovo Facebook page.
