Water outage affects southern areas

Residents in Amanzimtoti and Doon Heights who have experienced water outages will soon have water flowing from their taps.

WATER supply challenges are being experienced in parts of Amanzimtoti and Doon Heights as a result of low water levels in Doonside’s School Road reservoir as well as the Launceston reservoir.

This comes after the entire southern region between Umlazi and Pennington supplied by the south coast aqueduct pipeline (SCA) experienced an electrical fault on February 24, causing it to go offline. Ward 97 councillor André Beetge said that on the morning of February 26, the SCA was back online, and water flow to reservoirs had increased.

“Levels indicate recovery to the point where water can again be supplied into the system. We will be conducting site visits with eThekwini Water Department technicians to confirm their attention to the release of air and opening of valves in an attempt to stabilise supply,” said Beetge.

Municipal water tankers serviced the affected areas.
