eThekwini and Eskom agree to suspend load-shedding

Eskom has agreed to suspend load-shedding in the eThekwini Metro due to the ongoing municipal strike.

ETHEKWINI Municipality has announced that it has reached an agreement with Eskom to suspend load-shedding for the duration of the ongoing municipal strike. In a statement, it said this was to avoid dispatching staff if there were overload trip-outs.

Workers affiliated with the South African Municipal Workers Union have embarked on a wildcat strike since February 27, demanding for their payscale to be equal to that of workers in Gauteng municipalities. The striking workers have also allegedly threatened non-striking staff with harm.

“Considering the current network faults, the City is satisfied that it has the required quota to carry through load-shedding,” said the statement.
