Amanzimtoti model sets his sights on international stage

Jan Strydom has many accolades for modelling and dancing, and has been the national face of Talent Africa, having won first place in the competition.

JAN Strydom (37) recently secured gold in both the formal and casual modelling categories at the regional level of Talent Africa, via an online video entry.

Representing KwaZulu-Natal and his hometown of Amanzimtoti, Strydom is now gearing up for the national competition set to take place in September. His goal is to qualify for the FPASA (Federation of Performing Arts SA) Provincial Colours, a recognition he has attained previously, and to earn a spot in the prestigious international Stars of the Universe competition in Europe next year.

Strydom’s choice to focus on modelling among the many talent categories that are offered underscores his belief that modelling is more than just physical appearance. “It’s not about looks and age; it requires a blend of personality, walking techniques and overall presentation, making it more a sport than a beauty pageant,” he said.

His impressive career in modelling and dance is marked by numerous accolades. He has qualified twice to compete in New York for modelling and participated in Eurodance in Serbia for hip-hop. He holds the title of Mr Model of KZN 2018 and has earned numerous certificates and medals across various competitions. He has also been the national face of Talent Africa, having secured first place in the competition.

“My modelling journey actually began through dance when a talent agency scouted me at the age of 24. Within my first year of dance, I was excelling at exams and winning awards. I love hip-hop and have performed at venues such as the Barnyard Theatre and the Playhouse,” said Strydom.

Dancing and modelling are more than just hobbies for him; they are activities that boost his confidence and allow him to meet new people. “Anyone can pursue their dreams; if you believe you can do it, you’ll succeed. Talent Africa is the perfect place to share your talent, no matter your experience level, and get opportunities to be scouted to achieve your dreams,” he said.
