The department is responsible for public infrastructure and property management services to all the other ministries of the South African government. He has his job cut out for him as he has to bring back to life the collapsed infrastructure in the province. Meyer is one of two Democratic Alliance (DA) members who form part of the provincial cabinet appointed by the new Premier, Thami Ntuli of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP).

Speaking to the media after he was sworn in, Meyer said that one of the biggest tasks is to eliminate tender corruption while serving all people of the province. In a later statement, he said he was still overwhelmed by the messages of support he had been receiving.

“I understand the immense responsibility that has been put on me by the people of the province, the Premier, and my party. With the wealth of knowledge available to me through all the people I know – people who have experience, and this includes the residents of KZN whom I serve – I will be able to tackle the many challenges before us. As the saying goes, we will eat this elephant piece by piece and build a better KZN,” he said.
