Provincial government spokesperson Bongani Gina said that the KwaZulu-Natal government, led by Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli, is partnering with the national government to host the District Development Model (DDM) Presidential Imbizo.
“President Ramaphosa will use the Imbizo to accelerate the implementation of the DDM as a tool for integrated intergovernmental planning, budgeting and implementation. The key objective is to synchronise inter- and intra-governmental support and interventions to improve the performance of every municipality,” said Gina.
He added that the Imbizo coincides with Disability Rights Awareness Month, offering an opportunity to take concrete action to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities.
“This DDM Imbizo will create a platform for advancing participatory democracy through meaningful public engagement under the theme, ‘Every Municipality Must Work’,” he said.
The cabinet adopted the DDM in August 2019. The event will be held at Umnini sports ground from 09:00.
