Crow continues spreading its wings this festive season

Crow is encouraging the public to take caution when encountering wildlife during the festive season and to make use of their services.

THE Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (Crow) is continuing in its quest to protect and rehabilitate wildlife by operating throughout the busy festive season. Their team will be ready to respond to emergencies and callouts during this critical time.

Clint Halkett-Siddall, director of Crow, emphasised the importance of vigilance during the festive period. “We are open throughout the festive season, including all public holidays. We are operating from 07:00 to 17:00, with after-hours emergency services from 17:00-20:00,” said Halkett-Siddall.

He also called on the public to be more sensitive to wildlife, particularly because increased road activity and festivities could result in displaced or injured animals. Fireworks, which are common over the holidays, are particularly dangerous for wildlife.

“Please think about our wildlife before setting off explosive fireworks and look out for displaced wildlife on our roads during the holidays,” added Halkett-Siddall.

Wildlife emergencies and callouts:

For those who do come across a wild animal in distress, Crow advises the public to contact them directly for advice and assistance.
“The best option is to call us, and we will guide you on the best course of action. If we cannot attend immediately, we will refer you to one of our nearer depots or trusted veterinarians,” said Halkett-Siddall.

How you can help:

As a non-profit organisation, Crow relies on donations to continue its life-saving work. Supporters can contribute via their website or through EFT.

Guardian memberships and queries:

While Crow will respond to fundraising, marketing and Guardian Membership inquiries from January 6, supporters can still sign up for memberships or make donations during the holiday period. Requests for Section 18A tax certificates will also resume in January.

Halkett-Siddall said, on behalf of Crow and himself, they wanted to extend their warm wishes to all their supporters and wildlife lovers. “We wish you a fabulous and blessed festive season. Should you find a wild animal in need, do not hesitate to call us. Your support means everything to the survival of our wildlife.”
