Edu Paw graduates learn the ins and outs of being a dog owner

Children from underprivileged backgrounds were equipped with the knowledge to be responsible pet owners through Edu Paw's programme.

THE FIFTEENTH class of children graduated recently from the Edu Paw programme which prepares them for responsible pet ownership. The lively graduation ceremony saw the children celebrated for the effort they put into being the best pet owner they each can be.

The graduates dressed to the nines in their best Christmas attire. The children arrived excited and proud, marking the end of their eight-week journey.

Before the festivities began, facilitator Nomfundo Luthuli led the group through the programme’s baseline assessment, a tool used at the start and end of the programme to measure the children’s learning.

Founder of Edu Paw, Cathy Keegan, said, “This session prompted lively discussion, reflecting just how engaged and enthusiastic this particular class has been. Each child was then awarded a certificate of completion, received with beaming smiles and loud applause from peers and volunteers alike. It was a heartwarming celebration of growth, learning, and community.”

Thanks to the generous support of donors, the children were treated to a spread that included hotdogs, cold drinks, biscuits, chips, sweets, lollipops, and a tasty graduation cake. Each child also received a Bible, serving as a lasting reminder of their achievement and the values they have learnt.

“The dogs were not forgotten, with each one scampering home with a hamper containing a food bowl, a large tin of food, treats, a tug toy, a brush, and a ball, ensuring our four-legged friends were celebrated too. Edu Paw would like to extend heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to making this day such a special one for the children and their dogs,” said Luthuli.

Edu Paw appeal

After eight years of use Edu Paw’s gazebo has begun to deteriorate. The NPO is appealing to the public for a donation of a second-hand gazebo which would be gratefully received. Should you wish to assist, contact Luthuli on 079 969 8618.
