Exciting games and extraordinary fun at Mother of Peace

Various community groups came together to descend on Mother of Peace for a fun-filled day, spreading joy among the caregivers and children.

FROM “egg and spoon” to wrapping one another up like Egyptian mummies in toilet paper, Mother of Peace in Illovo was home to family fun, treats and loads of sweets.

The event was hosted by the Amanzimtoti Youth Crime Prevention desk together with the Community Policing Forum (CPF), Spiritual Crime Network, Amanzimtoti police and Blue Security as part of its Youth Month celebrations.

Residents and roleplayers involved in the fun day were welcomed by youth desk chairperson, Gerhardus van den Bergh, and everyone indulged in hotdogs, cold drinks and snacks.

Under the midday sun a grass patch between the homes served as an informal arena for old school games, including egg and spoon, and tic tac toe, which proved a hit among both the children and the caregivers. Boisterous laughter echoed between the Mother of Peace homes.

Merlene Matthew, Amanzimtoti CPF chairperson, said, “The competitive spirit proved powerful as everyone wanted to win the prizes. The hit of the day was the jumping castle, sponsored by Blue Security.”

She extended thanks to Idan Smollan, of Blue Security, for spending the day there, as well as sponsors, Kairos Engineering, Jarefs Paints, Usizo-lomndeni.org, Fred Matthew, Theresa Venter, Sharon Naicker and Kip McGrath for their generous donations towards the snacks and prizes.

“By working together, we can make a difference in the lives of our youth and bring about hope,” concluded Matthew.
